Overlocking weekend course @ Museum of Making

  • The museum of making Derby (map)

Learn the skills throughout this weekend course to make your organic cotton tee-shirt and sweatshirt!

During this course, Abigail will take you through the step-by-step process of handling a 4-thread over-locker, handling sweat-shirting jerseys, amending patterns and inserting jersey ribs.

You will leave this workshop with a beautiful organic cotton tee and sweater bespoke to your measurements and personalised with your design features such as labelling and cuffs.

Each student will be provided with all the equipment and resources to make their items such as; an over-locker, sewing machine, fabric scissors, pattern master etc.

The course costs include the Sara Kristen #sweatpeaweatshirt and tee printed paper patterns and instructions which you get to keep so you can keep on making more garments and practice and perfect the art of sewing jersey.

Materials and trims of the highest quality will be used. The fabric is organic cotton fleeced back sweat-shirting and organic cotton single jersey from a supplier with excellent transparency and a fantastic history of fair trade fabric. The threads we will use are compostable and suitable for jersey wear.

The weekend course will take place on Saturday and Sunday at the Museum of Making Textile Studio in Derby. Timings can vary depending on the student’s sewing pace.

Material information

The colour of the fabric and ribs being used are the same as the photo above; Mélange beige (supplier stock permitting) for the body fabric and charcoal grey for the ribs… pretty but practical! The single jersey colour is likely to be either; navy, black or ecru.

The garments are all unisex.

All the items you produce will be sustainably sourced, made (by you!) and completely biodegradable … a rare thing in today’s world!

A break down of the course costs.

This workshop is suitable for students who have previously attended one of Abigail’s sewing courses or have previous experience sewing as sewing ribs can be challenging.

There is a maximum of 4 students per class.

Workshop end times may vary slightly on the day depending on the pace of sewing.

Refunds are not available.
