Derby's ETHICAL Christmas market

Ethical shopping made easy. With our carefully curated stalls showcasing some incredible Derbyshire businesses that are pushing the boundaries of ethics and sustainability within their business…scroll down to see all the wonderful gifts you can purchase.

  • Delicious ethical food and drink from; AF mulled wine, healthy Kombucha, ethically produced coffee, ve vegan bakes, vegan junk hot food, chilli kitchen and ethical Just-Ice Cream.

  • Tickets can be purchased at the door £2pp for adults, cash/card/contactless is fine. Kids are free and supervised dogs most welcome. Please help us by RSVP on the FB page here so we have a rough idea of attendance.

  • Please note this year we are in the new location of Derby’s Chocolate factory (home to Bustler near the rail station) public parking is available two minutes from the site at NCP car park on Liversage Street, DE1 2LD.

  • This year we are running workshops and panel q&a’s to unpack more on ‘what is ethical shopping’ and ‘does ethical shopping make a difference?’ more on this below.

Abigail Wastie- Derby-based sustainable fashion activist and tutor, has worked in the fashion industry for over ten years and now runs sustainable fashion courses in Derby and nationally. Abigail is part of the core team organising this market as she is passionate about promoting quality ethical brands and making them more accessible to the Derby customer.

Sophie Benson - fashion journalist Sophie Benson’s publications include Dazed and Vogue, and her recently published book Sustainable Wardrobe equips her audience with all the knowledge and practical skills they need to curate a more considered wardrobe and fight for a fairer fashion industry. A background in human rights activism.

Sally Murray- Owner and founder of Just-Ice Ethical Ice-cream. A pioneering business transforming the lives of survivors of human trafficking and modern-day slavery through route to employment in their ice cream manufacturing chain.

Charlotte Instone- a social entrepreneur and founder of The Known the Origin, a sustainable brand that prioritises ethical and transparent practices. She scaled the business to a 7 figures and worked with Fairtrade producers and was listed as Forbes 30 under 30.

"How to create a more ethical supply chain?" session

Hosted in partnership with the Ethical Consumer magazine conferenc.

Are you a business looking to make a difference but not sure how?

Join this session to learn from pioneering SMBs transforming lives through their ethical supply chain and recruitment. The event is hybrid streamed on Linkedin and IRL at an eco sportswear factory in Derby. Booking is essential and spaces are limited.

The session will be a series of interviews, a tour of the host’s factory and a sampling of some of the delicious ethically manufactured products we will be hearing about. And space for listeners to ask questions and gain practical advice on the realities of recruiting and training individuals from marginalised communities.

Please note we will have a soft finish at 2:30 pm for those on the school run dash but anyone with more time is welcome to stay and chat with the speakers until 3pm.

It doesn’t matter how big or small your business is anyone curious is welcome.

  • Some of the seminar discussions will be live streamed on Abigail’s Instagram which you are welcome to interact with questions by commenting on the stream.

Caroline Budd & Craig Woodward- Directors of De Ronde sustainable sportwear manufacturer in Derby, a living wage factory employer focused on supporting brands to create eco sportswear fashion.

Micheal Gladwell- Upbeat Clean is an award-winning commercial cleaning company based in Derby. It was started by a local charity to combine excellent cleaning with life-changing employment. Partnering with over 25 organisations across Derby to provide an excellent cleaning service while also changing lives.

Abigail Wastie- Derby-based sustainable fashion activist and tutor, has worked in the fashion industry for over ten years and now runs sustainable fashion courses in Derby and nationally. Abigail has organised this event with the Ethical Consumer Magazine because she believes supply chains have the power to change lives for the better and that it is not as elusive to achieve as the media can portray. This is why Abigail is keeping the learning format for this event as friendly and accessible as possible.

  • if you have it your old beeswax kit with any leftover ingredients ; resin, wax and oil

  • if you don’t have one of my kits but you have some beeswax and some olive oil

  • 2 big pieces of parchment paper
